Embark on an unforgettable adventure along one of the most captivating hiking trails on the island of Brač – the circular route that connects the coastal village of Farska with the abandoned hamlet of Obršje and the historical Blaca Hermitage. This 10.9-kilometer loop, located near the popular town of Bol, is considered a challenging hike and typically takes just under 4 hours to complete, depending on your pace and stops along the way. Open all year round, the trail offers an immersive experience into the island’s rugged interior, cultural history, and stunning Adriatic scenery.
Start Your Journey in Farska or Obrsje
You can begin your hike from the quiet bay of the village of Farska, known for its tranquil atmosphere and untouched natural beauty. Alternatively, start from the higher-elevation ruins of Obrsje, an abandoned shepherds’ village that once supported rural life on Brac. From either direction, the route quickly transports you into a peaceful world of pine forests, dry stone walls, olive groves, and expansive views over the southern coastline of the island.

Discover the Blaca Hermitage
One of the highlights of this trail is reaching the Blaca Hermitage (Pustinja Blaca) – a 16th-century monastery built by Glagolitic monks who escaped the Turkish invasions on the mainland. Nestled into a dramatic cliffside of the Blaca Valley, this architectural and spiritual gem was entirely carved into rock over centuries. The monastery functioned for over 400 years, developing into a self-sustaining community that included a school, an observatory, and a rich collection of rare books and scientific instruments – many of which can still be seen today inside the preserved museum.
Blaca is more than a historical site; it’s a symbol of human resilience and devotion. The surrounding landscape exudes serenity, with the silence only interrupted by the wind in the trees and the sound of your footsteps on ancient stone paths. Walking here feels like stepping back in time.

Scenic Descent to Blaca Bay and Return Along the Coast
After exploring the hermitage, the trail descends toward the sea, reaching the secluded Bay of Blaca (Uvala Blaca) – a hidden cove with clear turquoise waters and a pristine pebble beach. This peaceful bay is perfect for a refreshing swim during warmer months, and it offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the Adriatic far from the summer crowds.
From here, the path hugs the coastline, taking you past traditional vineyards that have been cultivated for generations, some stretching all the way down to the sea. The lush greenery contrasts beautifully with the stone terraces and the brilliant blue of the water. As you follow the trail back toward Farska and up to Obršje, you’ll pass scenic viewpoints and occasional glimpses of island wildlife.
